“Girls, we got some action on the main street. Chance is going after Desiree!”

He heard her yell it even before she was in the door and knew in a second the entire beauty salon would be outside watching with curlers and mud masks on their faces. He didn’t care. He had already been plastered all over TV for a few weeks with her on his steps. How would a few more townspeople gossiping going to make a difference? He would shout it from town hall if he had to. Desiree Paget was his, and he was going to marry her.

New Life Photography. The name of her shop spoke volumes. Chance glanced up at the sign before he pushed the door open forcefully making the little bell jingle like an alarm. Desiree was standing shoulder to shoulder with Carl looking at something on the receptionist counter. She whirled around when she heard the door, and her eyes widened in shock when she saw him.

“Chance, what are you doing here?” she gasped out.

“I should ask you the same thing. You never left I heard,” he said. Chance drank in her face and every curve he remembered touching over and over.”

“This is my home now.” She raised her chin defiantly. “With or without you, remember I said that.”

“I recall you saying that. I didn’t think you meant it at the time, but I remember.”

Carl stood watching their interaction but saying nothing. Chance barely paid him any interest. His focus was on Desiree.

“So what can I do for you, Chance?” she asked. Her voice was a little breathless. It reminded him of how she said his name when she was in the midst of her desire.

“I need you to come home with me,” Chance said simply. “We have things we need to sort out.”

“I-I don’t think that is a good idea,” Desiree stammered.

  “Why?” he asked.

“Didn’t you hear her, Chance? She said no,” Carl piped in.

Chance shot him an irritated look. “Wrong. She said she didn’t think it was a good idea, Carl, and this isn’t any of your business.”

“It is if the lady says no. She means it.” Carl’s voice was surly.

“Listen, Carl, I said leave it alone,” Chance snarled. “You know me. I am trying to really have some patience and not break your scrawny neck, so shut up and get out.”

Chance made a step toward Carl who threw up his hands and backed away. Typical, he thought with devilish pleasure. Carl might be a charmer, but he was also a notorious coward. You raise a fist at him, and he always went to protect that pretty face to go with the yellow blond hair. The door jangled a merry good-bye as Carl left, and Chance turned his attention back to Desiree.

“Now look what you did. You scared him off,” Desiree said. “He was supposed to paint today, and he was going to take me to the bar tonight for pictures.”

“Don’t worry about Carl. He’ll get over it. You want to go to the Moosehead, I’ll take you. And I’ll get Donny and the boys to come finish painting whatever you need.

“Oh, now you want to take me somewhere.” Desiree stomped her foot in anger. “First you want me to leave and you throw me off your property. Now here you are throwing people out of my place and practically dictating who is going to do what. You didn’t even know I was here until Harvey opened his big mouth!”

Chance grinned. “You are gorgeous when you’re angry.”

“I’m not kidding, Chance. What gives you the right, huh? I loved you, and you wouldn’t even listen, so who says you can just blow back in and take control?”

“You loved me. You say it in the past tense. You don’t love me anymore?” Chance asked. His heart hurt just to hear her say the word loved as if it was over. “You never said it when we were together.”

“Well you never did either,” she pointed out.

Chance sighed. “Listen we have a lot to talk about, and first I am going to say it right here. I’m sorry. So come home with me, and we’ll talk.”

“No.” She folded her hands across her chest stubbornly.

Chance narrowed his eyes. “Come on, sweetheart, don’t be hardheaded. Let’s go talk and work this out.”

“And I said no, you-you brute,” she replied.

  “Brute, huh?”

Desiree nodded her head. “Yes, I said it. You, Chance Niven, are a brute.”

He strode over to her and lifted her off her feet, and Desiree screamed. “Put be down, you big galoot!”

“You’ve been learning some countrified words, Ms. Paget.” Chance smacked her on the tush. “Well then we’ll do it the brute way. You’re coming home with me.”

He walked outside, and the street seemed to erupt in cheers “Oh, I am so mortified.” Desiree moaned in dismay and clapped her hands over her eyes. “These are people I have to work around.”

“They’ll get over it,” Chance said mildly.

“Where you going to take her, Chance?” Sally called out with laughter in her voice.

“We have some things to sort out. Lock up her place, Sally.”

Chance walked behind the feed store with everyone one watching and deposited her into the cab of his truck. She folded her arms and shot him a glare. He cupped her neck and pulled her into his kiss, reveling in her taste and sinking his tongue in her mouth over and over again. Desiree moaned under the onslaught of his mouth and held onto his arms while he funneled all his emotion into that one kiss.

He leaned his head against hers. “I love you.”

“You never said that before,” Desiree whispered. “Chance, you hurt me. I needed you to believe in me, and you didn’t.”

“Oh, I know, baby. I know.” Chance’s voice was tortured. “All I can ask is for you to forgive me.”

“I don’t know if I can, Chance,” she admitted truthfully. “I learned to stand on my own, and who’s to say if a cameraman comes around and gets in your face. Oh, where is Desiree Paget now? You might decide that it’s my fault. I can’t deal with the push and pull and the doubt.”

He kissed her again, turned her around in her seat, and settled between her legs, pulling her close. Their tongues parried and dueled, mated and danced. Her hand on his skin was driving him insane with desire. Chance pulled away before he ended up taking her in a back alley of the feed store.

“We should go talk,” he said in between kisses.

“Uh-hum, we should, a long talk,” Desiree whispered back.

  “At my house.”

She nodded. “Very, very fast like right now.”

Chance gave her another hard kiss and seat belted her in. He walked around the truck with a hard-on aching in his pants. He doubted they would do much talking, and that was fine with him. Problems could be solved with some serious loving and no clothes in his opinion. He tore out from behind the store like a bat out of hell. He wanted to make it home before desire clouded his mind completely and he ended up taking her in the cab of the truck on the side of some dusty road.

Desiree looked over to Chance who was gripped the steering wheel tight as he drove. Every time he looked over at her, she could see the smoldering lust in his eyes. He made her wet with one kiss, scrambled her senses with another. Desiree knew she should not give in so easily when it came to Chance. The hurt was still there. She had cried many a tear over the last few weeks, and pride kept her from going to his ranch to beg him to understand. But right now, she couldn’t see past the undeniable need to be consumed by him. To make love with him until nothing existed outside their passion.

Chance turned into the driveway that led to the ranch and cursed. One of the guys had left the hay bailer in his way so he could not get to his house that way. Desiree held onto the door when he whipped the truck around and went through the second gate that they used to herd cattle from one pasture to another. He sent gravel flying in the air and parked. Chance pulled her across the wide seat of the cab and feasted on her lips, greedily sucking on her tongue and massaging her breasts through the material of her sweater. Their lips never broke apart while he fumbled behind him to open the truck door an
d to slide out. He took her across the seat with him, and Desiree wrapped her legs around his waist while he pressed her up against the truck and bit her neck. He thrust himself against her, and she could feel the hardness of him though his jeans.

“Chance, your workers….” She gasped when his hands went under her sweater to pluck at her nipples.

“They are gone for the day.” He moved with her in his arms easily as if she weighed nothing and strode past the house.

“Where are we going? she said between kisses.

“The barn . . . house too far away,” Chance muttered. “I need you now.”

“Okay,” was all she said before she was drowning in the heated sensations of excitement once more.

The barn was cool, and the clean fresh smell of hay surrounded them. He walked up wooden stairs to the hayloft where he stood her on her feet and unbuttoned his shirt. Following his cue, Desiree undressed quickly, and he captured her in his arms and laid her down against the soft bed of hay.

“I think you started something that you need to finish.” Desiree pushed the lock of hair from his face. Her voice was a sexy murmur, and she watched desire darken his eyes.

“I love you, Desiree. Please, say you’ll forgive me,” Chance implored.

“You made me feel a lot of things in such a short time. Hot, wet, horny, love. I do love you, Chance, but I’m scared,” she admitted with total honesty.

His eyes were fixed on hers. “I won’t ever hurt you again. I swear it, and if I do, you have my permission to punch my lights out.” He placed her hand over his heart and tapped it gently. “Your name is branded right here on my heart. Say you love me, darlin’. I’m not whole without you.”

Desiree brought his head close to hers and whispered, “I love you, Chance.”

She trailed her tongue along the curve of his ear and was pleased to feel his hands tighten on her waist and his body shudder.

“No more talking. My mouth should be doing other things,” he said.

No more words were needed when he met her with a fierce kiss letting his tongue tease and tempt her mouth while her hands fisted in his hair at the onslaught. Chance took her from sizzle to burn in a hot country minute. Desiree reveled in the feel of his hands against her skin and cupping the smooth globes of her breasts. His finger teased her nipples and made her gasp against his lips.

She had lost all inhibition with him and begged. “Oh Chance, taste them, please.”

“I–would–love–to.” Chance’s reply was punctuated by kisses in the valley of her breasts.

His tongue licked its way to her nipple and laved it before pulling the dark bead into his mouth. His hands traveled down her long legs, trailing fire in its wake, and while he feasted at her breasts, his fingers rubbed at her wet slit.

“Damn, sweetheart, you are so wet. Spread your legs for me,” he ordered.

Desiree bit her lip to keep from crying out with need, and did his bidding. Her body trembled in anticipation of what he was going to do. She was not disappointed. His finger slipped between the folds of flesh that protected the entrance to her pussy. He dipped the digit inside her and teased until he buried the digit to the hilt in the depth her moist sex.

“Oh, God!” The soft cry escaped her lips as his finger moved against the buried sensitive spot. Her hips moved of their own accord, seeking the pleasure he offered. “More, Chance. Oh, God, harder.”

Without a word, he gave her what she asked for letting another finger join its partner in her velvet sex. Her moans came with every breath she took, and she could feel her body reaching for the almost painful pleasure of an orgasm.

“Hold on to me, darlin’. Let it take you.” Chance’s breath was hot against her skin as he spoke.

His fingers were moving faster, touching that sweet spot that made her want to beg for mercy. Desiree could hear the wet smacking sounds her body made as he fucked her with his hand. She felt droplets of her own juices run down her thighs. With her hand on his shoulder, she threw her head back and cried out as she came. Her body shuddered, and her pussy clenched around the source of her pleasure.

Chance held her to him until her trembling subsided to shivers. He lifted her to straddle his body and pulled her onto his rigid shaft. Their moans of gratification mingled as he filled her with his cock that was buried to the hilt in her soaking wet pussy.

“Oh, good God, you feel so fucking good wrapped around my cock.” His tone took on the sound of harsh desire as she moved.

His hands cupped at the smooth cheeks of her ass. and he pulled her down firmly making her cry out as his rigid member touched her core. From there they lost all control, and passion was un-reigned. She could feel the hay against her knees as she rode him, gripping his hips with her thighs like he taught her to when she rode a horse. His hands squeezed and massaged her body while his mouth sought her nipple. With every cry she made, he echoed it with a moan.

“Oh, yes, baby girl, take it all!”

His words sent her over the edge, and she spiraled into another orgasm. It made her cry out, and tears leaked from the corners of her eyes with the intensity of it that rolled over her in waves. Chance followed suit, and his guttural moans filled the room as he pumped inside her over and over again, prolonging his pleasure. He fell back against the hay taking her with him and rolled her over to lie on her side. She could feel the hay sticking to her sweat-sheened body but didn’t care.

“I think we have argued this point, and the mutual agreement is that we should stay together forever,” Chance said.

“Is that what we just did?’ she murmured and giggled. “Then I herby agree.”

“I’m going to have to make an honest woman out of you, so men like Carl can just keep their distance.”

Desiree leaned up on her elbow and looked at him. “Is that a marriage proposal?”

The rain had begun to fall outside and made a relaxing patter against the metal roof of the barn. Chance picked up his Stetson and settled it on her head. “You betcha, sweet thing. I’ll do it right with a ring and everything. So will you take me to be your husband?”

With her heart full of love Desiree leaned down and kissed him. “I’ll take you, Chance, for a lifetime.”

“That’s all good with me.” He grinned and whooped.

His cry echoed in the barn and made her laugh in delight. She went from New York glitz to country girl chic. And with the man she loved by her side and a whole new life spread out in front of her like the Montana mountains, Desiree knew there was nothing better than that, and it was all good with her as well.
